The History of danish canoepolo starts in the 1960'ties or 70'ties where a group of people from Odense kayak club imported som heavy canoepolo boats from Germany.

It did not be a success and the boats was used for fun instead of playing the game. In the late 90'ties some other clubs Aalborg, Skovshoved and Hvidovre played some matches in Skovshoved harbour in 1998. In 1999 Skovshoved Rowing Club invited all clubs to a small indoor tournament where they had all there equipment, so the clubs didn't have to have there own.

I was a hougth success and 10 clubs where fighting to win the throphy!

Late in 1999 Skovshoved annonced that they invited all clubs to join the danish championship, this time outdoor in the habour on a real sized pitch. 12 teams entered and had a lot of fun. The federation annonced that the winner of this (still unofficial) danish championship could go til Mechelin and play the European Championship there. Holte Pack Tech won and went to the European Championship as the first danish national team.

In the next couple of years the danish championship went from being a "one weekend" event to be a tournament over 4 weekends. Every year until 2008 the tournament have changed to find the best and most fair way to win the danish championship and at the same time have a good stabil structure that can continue for many years, with a play-off at the end so the medias have easy access to the finals.

Now the quistions are about how big should the tournament be and who should do the administration which is being bigger and bigger. Should the tournament be a game where you have to qualify for and only be one weekend with the best of the best or should continue to be a tournament over severel weekends where you meet the other teams more than ones...

Theese quastians and many more are the ones the canoepolo board in the federation are strugling with in the years to come...
